Since Friday, the Folkloriales have in fact taken over the place to offer the inhabitants of Bastogne and the region the opportunity to rediscover everything that makes up the city’s DNA, but also to introduce visitors to the traditions of the Bastognais and Bastognards.
On a Saturday evening that we hoped would be dry until the end of the shows (failed!), the organizers decided to anticipate the first session. Well installed, the public welcomed the giant Trouffet, symbol of all Bastognards. Thanks to the voice of Guy Mars, he offered reflections in French or Walloon to clearly understand the Bastogne spirit.
Legends and folklore then joined forces on stage. The Piches Cacayes invade the premises for a few dances to their anthem sung by the music school Et si la musique. But the Piches cannot be satisfied with a few steps, they must go and annoy the public. The Herdiers and their ham proudly display their ceremonial clothes to honor their cured meats, but also the pig. A big one invades a stage, other smaller ones launch into a saraband. The history of the city is not forgotten: from the Romans to the French kings, including the Walnut Fair and the Liège-Bastogne-Liège cycle race. Without forgetting a visit to the carnival and its Gédiwis or even some legends of the region like the werewolf of Neffe.
A superb journey through time and the roots of Bastogne enhanced by the talent of the impressive fire jugglers, the fireworks who competed with the lightning of the emerging storm, also the work of Luc Petit. But the dances turned out to be rain dances. The storm is brewing, the rain invites itself to the party and ruins the atmosphere. No choice, you will have to come back during this week to enjoy the latest paintings from the Folkloriales.
The show will run until August 29 with sessions at 9:30 p.m. and 10:30 p.m.
